Mr. Hogan
Matthew Hogan is entering his sixth year of teaching and his third year at Rogers Middle School and Berry Miller Junior High School. At Rogers Middle School, he teaches beginning trumpet, French horn, and trombone classes. At Berry Miller Junior High, he directs the Symphonic Band and assists with the Honors, Concert 1, and Concert 2 Bands. Before joining Pearland ISD, Mr. Hogan spent three years as an assistant band director at Arnold Middle School in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD.
Originally from Houston and raised in Corpus Christi, Mr. Hogan began his musical journey at Gregory-Portland High School, where he served as drum major of the G-P Wildcat Marching Band and was a two-time 5A Texas All-Area French horn performer. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Houston, graduating summa cum laude in May 2021. While at the Moores School of Music, he studied French horn with Gavin Reed, performed in the UH Wind Ensemble, served as assistant conductor of the Cougar Brass Basketball Band, and was drum major of the "Spirit of Houston" Cougar Marching Band for three years.
Mr. Hogan is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association and the Texas Bandmasters Association and is an alumnus of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
He lives in southwest Houston with his wife, Julia, and their two cats, Spruce and Juniper, and their Labrador retriever, Oakley. Outside the band hall, he enjoys crossword puzzles, coffee, and cheering on the University of Houston Cougars.
