Mr. Bennett

Chris Bennett is currently entering his fifteenth year of teaching and is extremely excited to be continuing the “traditions of excellence” at Rogers Middle and Berry Miller Junior High School.  In 2019, the Honors Band at Berry Miller received it eleventh consecutive U.I.L. Sweepstakes Award, was named Best in Class at the Shadow Creek Showcaase of Sound, and placed fourth in the TMEA State Honor Band Contest.  Before coming to Rogers and Berry Miller, Mr. Bennett was the director of bands for four years at Bayside Intermediate School (Clear Creek ISD), assistant band director for three years at League City Intermediate School (Clear Creek ISD) and for one year at Baines Middle School (Fort Bend ISD). His bands at Berry Miller, Bayside, League City and Baines have consistently received the U.I.L. Sweepstakes Award as well as several Best in Class Awards.  In 2018, the Berry Miller Junior High School Honors Band was selected to perform at the 2019 Music for All National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana.  His bands at Berry Miller Junior High School and Bayside Intermediate School have been consistent TMEA CC/CCC Honor Band Finalists, placing 4th (2019), 9th (2017), 7th (2013), and 14th (2011) in the state of Texas.

Mr. Bennett is a native of Pearland, TX where he was a member of the “Pride of Pearland” – Pearland High School Band. Mr. Bennett was a member of the 2001 T.M.E.A. All-State Symphonic Band and the 2001 National John Phillip Sousa Honor Band. He graduated from Pearland High School in 2001 and continued his musical career at the University of Houston.

While at UH, Mr. Bennett was a member of the “Spirit of Houston” Marching Band and the, internationally recognized, Moores School of Music Wind Ensemble; where he was the principal Bass Clarinetist his junior and senior years. While a member of the UH Wind Ensemble, the ensemble was nominated for a Grammy Award and performed at the T.M.E.A. and the C.B.D.N.A. Clinic and Conventions. He studied clarinet and bass clarinet with Houston Ballet Orchestra Clarinetists Randall Griffin and Chester Rowell. His music education teachers included Tom Bennett, Eddie Green, John Benzer, and David Bertman. Mr. Bennett student taught at Goforth Elementary and League City Intermediate Schools and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Houston in 2005.

Mr. Bennett is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Texas Music Adjudicator Association, and the Texas State Teachers Association.
